Tiger Woods to end his silence over sex scandal as he plans public apology

The 34-year-old, who has not made a public appearance since being linked to a string of mistresses, will be speaking at the TPC Sawgrass golf club in Florida.

'Tiger plans to discuss his past and his future and he intends to apologise for his behaviour,' said his agent Mark Steinberg.

The press conference will be in front of 'a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates', the agent added.

But it will be broadcast by much of the U.S. media and effectively turn Woods's appearance into a very public confession.

It will also give the golfer, who has lost millions in sponsorship deals as a result of allegations about his private life, a chance to apologise to his wife Elin Nordegren.

She is believed to have a divorce on hold after Woods agreed to seek help for his sex addition.

The world's richest sports star is living apart from his wife, a former model, in the Orlando area of Florida.

He is reported to be staying at the family's £1.7million home in the Isleworth gated community while Elin, 30, lives half a mile away in rented accommodation with their two young children.

After the news of his infidelity broke she stopped wearing her wedding ring amid reports she had thrown her husband out of their home.

Woods initially went into hiding and has moved back to the house after being treated for sex addiction at a clinic in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Since a late-night crash outside his home on Thanksgiving Day evening in November he has been linked to at least 12 women, including two porn stars.

Days before the crash a U.S. magazine said he was having an affair with nightclub hostess Rachel Uchitel.

Several women since claimed they had affairs with Woods, including porn stars Holly Sampson and Joslyn James.

Woods admitted to ' transgressions' and announced he was quitting golf to concentrate on saving his marriage. It was rumoured that this was one of Elin's demands.
