Harold Ramis Offers Something New in 'Ghostbusters 3'
'Yeah, we definitely are introducing new Ghostbusters. That much is for sure. And there will be inter-dimensional creatures visiting New York,' the actor who plays Dr. Egon Spengler shares. With his return as Dr. Egon Spengler being confirmed earlier, Harold Ramis made time to address several details concerning "Ghostbusters 3". During the promotional effort for the upcoming release of "Year One" DVD, the 64-year-old actor/filmmaker talked with MovieWeb about his vision on his character and the aim of developing a third "Ghostbusters" movie. Asked about the life of Egon in 2012, he responded, "I had two initial first instincts. One was that Egon had become a shaved head Buddhist monk. That is not going to happen." He then added, "The thing that I pitched for my character is that he's been living in Geneva, and he works for the Institute of Imaginary Science." As for the aim for this movie, he stated, "I think we are just going to try and make a good movie. The intention of a sequel is not to give an audience more of what they didn't get enough of the first time. It's to give the audience something that is new. We want them to feel that they are having a new experience of some kind." "That becomes a tightrope," he furthermore continued his explanation without revealing much of the plot. "Yeah, we definitely are introducing new Ghostbusters. That much is for sure. And there will be inter-dimensional creatures visiting New York. And we will deal with it. That's all I am allowed to say at this point." When presented with the idea whether the movie will be dealing with the Mayan calendar and the end of the world, he said, "That is pure speculation. We are not going to do that." The director/writer of "Analyze That" also mentioned that no one has been approached let alone signed for the new installment. "Ghostbusters 3" will be the second sequel for the 1980s comedy movie. Columbia Pictures has picked up Emmy-nominated screenwriting team, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, to pen the script, which is expected to commence early summer. The new movie reportedly will feature the old team as the sage mentors of young Ghostbusters. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will reprise their iconic roles
