Bunion watch: Victoria Beckham insists her bunions 'aren't that bad' as she steps out in flip-flops again

Casual: Victoria Beckham wore jeans, T-shirt, baseball cap and flip-flops as she shopped in Beverly Hills over the weekend

She's started wearing flip-flops more often in recent weeks and even admitted she needs surgery to correct her bunions.

But despite her apparent foot trauma, Victoria Beckham insists her bunions aren't that bad after all.

The former Spice Girl, 35, was spotted dressed down for a shopping trip in Los Angeles over the weekend without her signature heels.

Looking casual in a T-shirt, baseball cap and baggy jeans, Beckham's bunions looked as big as ever in a pair of brown flip-flops.

Ouch: Beckham's bulging bunions wear clearly visible

For a woman who famously claimed she couldn't 'concentrate in flats', she has been opting for flat shoes over heels increasingly in recent weeks.

Her more sensible choice of footwear appears to suggest her bunions are becoming too painful to tolerate the killer heels she loves to wear.

As her bunions have begun to steal the spotlight recently, Beckham played down the pain.

She told Women's Wear Daily: '(The attention on my feet) really was embarrassing. I think I'll have to have the surgery, but I've heard it's the most painful.

'They touched it up to make it look worse. If [my feet] were as bad as all that, I wouldn't be able to wear these fabulous shoes by Brian Atwood.'

Despite her foot troubles, Beckham still continues to wear her killer heels, especially designs by Christian Louboutin and Brian Atwood.

A bunion is a bony bump at the base of the big toe joint. This becomes painfully inflamed when shoes rub against it - a problem made worse by high heels which throw the body weight forward.

Mother-of-three Victoria has already been advised to have a bunionectomy, which involves the surgeon cutting into the toe joint then re-aligning the toe bone and securing it with screws.

Such a procedure would mean she would have to take time off from her busy work schedule and force her out of her heels for months.

A sourced is quoted in Closer today saying: 'It's a major operation and Vic's said she's having sleepless nights at the thought of it.

'She's even been breaking out into a panic from the stress of contemplating such painful surgery. But she knows there's no way out, so it's a matter of when.

Prior to acknowledging her foot troubles, Beckham famously said: 'I can't concentrate in flats. I could go to the gym if I wore flats. I'd love to go to the gym but I just can't get my head around the footwear. I beyond hate ballerina flats.

I can't walk in them.

'Unless they're on a ballet dancer doing ballet, I just don't get it. I love heels.'
