X Factor: Olly Murs consoled by mum as results show he never came top in public vote... and was even beaten by Jedward

He's a winner to mum: X Factor runner up Olly Murs is consoled by his mother Vicki-Lynn outside the X Factor house in London today

For weeks it was besieged by fans, with private security hired to protect the contestants.

But today the X Factor house in London was deserted, aside for one lonely figure.
Olly Murs slept there alone last night, after coming second to Joe McElderry in the X Factor final.

Olly's parents came to help him pack as he was the final contestant to leave the X Factor house after coming second to Joe McElderry in the X Factor final

Today his parents arrived to console him, after newly released voting figures showed he never once topped the weekly public vote.
In fact, it emerged that had the judges not opted to save Olly in week seven, sending Jedward home, then he would have been voted off the show.

Putting on a brave face: Olly gets a hug from his father Peter

Tears: The 25-year-old was overcome with emotion during the X Factor final last night

Essex boy Olly, 25, received a big hug from his mother as he stood barefoot and visibly disappointed outside the luxury building he once shared with 11 other acts.
The voting figures are kept private throughout the show, to avoid influencing viewers.

The figures showed that Danyl Johnson came top of the leader board on three separate occasions, while second runner up Stacey Solomon topped it twice.

Rachel Adedeji topped it just once, in week three, although the following week she came bottom and was sent home.

But Joe McElderry, the eventual winner, rose steadily in position, before topping the board for the last five weeks.
