American royalty: Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear filmed The Kennedys in Ontario, Canada today

They were hailed as American royalty, so Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear have rather a tough job on their hands capturing the magic of The Kennedys.

But if the latest on set sneak peek is any indication, they may well be up to the challenge.

Thanks to impeccable hair, make-up and costuming, the pair looked just like the famous couple as they shot scenes for the new 8-hour TV mini-series in Ontario, Canada today.

Katie, 31, who has been filming for the last few weeks, this time wore a purple swing coat while portraying the iconic First Lady Jackie Kennedy while during her pregnancy.

Greg Kinnear, 47, who is best known for his roles in Little Miss Sunshine and As Good as it Gets, wore a sharp suit and shades for his role as JFK.

At one point he was seen throwing an American football and proved to be a rather good catch.

They later changed into more casual attire to film seafront scenes with a young girl, who is believed to be playing the Kennedys' daughter Caroline.

There was another little brunette on set too - Suri Cruise - and Katie took the 4-year-old for ice-cream on a break between takes.

Her step-daughter Isabella, 17, who recently had her bob snipped into a pixie cut, was also on location.

Meanwhile, Katie received a ringing endorsement from the crew of her last film.

Shari Springer Berman, who directed the upcoming film The Extra Man, told People magazine: 'Katie Holmes is so much fun and really down to earth.

'She bought cookies for everybody on the set one day and they were the best cookies I ever had.'

Berman added: 'They were these extremely fattening chocolate chip cookies that she probably just took a nibble of.'

Katie's co-star in the comedy, Paul Dan, 26, also praised her.

He said: 'She's probably one of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever met.'

Paul added: 'We got to know each other hanging out all day, you play cards, grab a juice.

'With the guy-girl thing, you want to feel comfortable, you don't want to be intimidated by the person you're working with.'
