Heel! Becks recovers from tendon surgery by swapping Posh for Coco in Beverly Hills

On me head: David Beckham recovers from Achilles tendon surgery in a Beverly Hills park with bulldog Coco

Football star David Beckham has been spotted frolicking in an LA park with another woman while wife Victoria has been back in Britain.

But there's no need for Posh to worry - the female companion in question is an eight-month-old bulldog called 'Coco'.

Beckham, who celebrated his 35th birthday last week, has been out of action since injuring his Achilles tendon in March.

He will miss out on the World Cup in June and will probably be sidelined for as long as eight months after undergoing surgery to repair the damaged tendon.

That will mean plenty of play time for Coco, who was lapping up the attention in the LA sunshine as they shared a kick around with a miniature football in a Beverly Hills park.

It was the first time David had been seen without his ankle covered in a cast since the surgery in Finland.

Puppy love: Coco is clearly devoted to her new master, but Becks kept her on a lead anyway - because he wouldn't be able to chase her if she ran off. He can be seen here holding the injured left ankle

He kept the exuberant puppy on a heavy-duty lead and harness at all times. After all, he wasn't about to ignore doctors orders and go running off after her if she decided to dash off into the distance.

So it was just a light walk, a gentle kick around - and plenty of pats on the head.
Coco showed her appreciation for the day out by refraining from leaving anything unpleasant behind that David might be forced to pick up.

Coco - the newest member of Team Beckham - was a Christmas present to David from Victoria, who returned to LA yesterday to be at her husband's side.

The little lady has proved a hit with not only David but the boys Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz.

David blamed his punishing schedule for the Achilles injury that ultimately shattered his World Cup dream.

The LA Galaxy star ruptured the tendon in the back of his left foot while on loan at AC Milan from LA Galaxy.

He said he enjoyed precious little time off over a two-year period, flying back and forth between Los Angeles and Europe as he attempted to keep his place in the England team.

But he told chat show host David Letterman: 'I needed to do it. In the last two years I've been pushing myself too hard because I wanted to get into Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

'I'd been flying from LA back to Europe a lot and I think it gave up.

'I think I'd been running too much in the game [against Cheivo when he suffered the injury] and I was tired. There was a minute left and it just went.'
