Living the fairytale: Gemma Arterton dazzles in her Valentino gown at the world premiere of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at Westfield in London

The film may be been The Prince Of Persia, but it was the fairytale princess who stole the show.

Gemma Arterton's nude coloured Valentino ballgown, embroidered with thousands of silver beads, dazzled the crowd.

Teamed with a severe side parting in her dark hair, and lashings of red lipstick, Gemma looked quite the Hollywood movie star.

Next to her dazzling frock her co-star Jake Gyllenhaal looked quite overshadowed.
Gemma, 24, stars as Princess Tamina in the action-adventure fantasy movie.

Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time, is based on an award-winning videogame of the same name developed by Ubisoft which was released in 2003.

The Princess's name has been changed from Farah to Tamina in the Disney backed movie.

'It's nice to see a Disney princess that's not a damsel in distress,' said Gemma on the red carpet.

'She's such a good role model for little girls who watch this.'

But in a recent interview with Details magazine, Gemma said fans of the video game are unhappy at her casting.

She said: 'I've gotten letters telling me I'm not right for the part because I don't look like the girl in the video game!'

Last night Gyllenhaal got the biggest screams, as thousands of fans packed Westfield shopping centre, which had been transformed to look like a Persian city, to catch a glimpse of the 29-year-old actor.

He undertook a tough training regime to portray rogue Prince Dastan and mark his debut as an action hero.

'It feels very good. I have to say I am enjoying myself,' he said.

The star of films such as Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain is getting used to the attention on his impressive physique.

'I don't think I ever expected that much attention,' he added.

'I think it was more like I tried to train to be able to look like I was, the character in the video game, and that I was able to do the stunts that were asked of me.'

Director Mike Newell was highly impressed with his talented leads.

'Jake was terrific. He worked so hard to make himself into Dastan.

'Gemma was adorable. When I first started working with her, she was 21 and three months out of drama school,' he revealed.

Amongst the other guests were The Saturdays Una Healy, singer Paloma Faith, and a slender Kerry Katona.
