'I've never looked at my body in a negative way': Jennifer Lopez gives the low-down on her famous derriere

Comfortable in her own skin: Wearing little more than a mac and a pair of towering heels, it's not hard to see where the fascination with J-Lo's body started

Crouched in the corner wearing little more than a mac and a pair of towering ribboned heels, it's not hard to see where the fascination with Jennifer Lopez's body started.

As famous for her curves as for her singing, Lopez maintains it's not about being a size zero, it's all about confidence.

'I was always very comfortable with who I was,' she tells Marie Claire. 'I've never looked at myself in a negative way.'

Back after a two-year break to look after her newborn twins, Lopez, 40, certainly oozes confidence in an exclusive shoot for the magazine.

And it seems the Latino singer's killer curves are still firmly in place, although Lopez admits she has to watch what she eats.

'Just like anybody I try to watch what I eat - there's no big science to it, which is what sucks.

'One of the good tricks is to have a goal - for me it may be getting in shape for a video shoot.

'The other is portion control. I love to eat everything and you pretty much can - a little piece of something fattening is not going to kill you. It's when you eat the whole box that it's going to kill you,' she tells the magazine.

But when asked about the frenzied fascination with her derriere and rumours that she had it insured for millions of dollars, Lopez laughs it off.

Killer curves: Lopez says that she was largely oblivious to the hype surrounding her bottom due to the fact that she was working so hard at the time

'No! Though I thought that story was funny. In fact, we traced that story, and that was a rumour that started in London,' she says.

Lopez says that she was largely oblivious to the hype surrounding her bottom due to the fact that she was working so hard at the time.

'I honestly at that time was in such a work fog I didn't even notice. Now that I've had time to sit I appreciate and love everything in a different way, and I think that's because of the kids too.

'I just think of life in a different way: back then it was just about the grind.'

And it's clear her twin babies with Latin singer husband Marc Anthony have had a profound effect on Lopez's life, with the singer even bringing them along to the photoshoot.

Lopez's reputation as a diva - it was once reported she demanded her coffee be stirred in a certain direction and her hotel room be strewn with feathers - could not, it seems, be further from the truth.

The singer talks about finding contentment, becoming a 'real person' again through motherhood and of being an artist and replenishing her artistic soul.

And it seems Marc Anthony has played his part in this contentment.

The full interview appears in this month's Marie Claire, out on Thursday

After being her confidante for many years, Marc Anthony went from friend to lover and the couple married in 2004.

'I think there was always this very strong chemistry with Marc and I from the very beginning, and he was always letting me know that,' she says.

'Since we first met I always felt that, if I got into trouble, he was the one person I could call and he would always be there. That to me is love in its purest form.'

Lopez lets slip that she had been romantically involved with Marc Anthony long before they officially became an item.

'We kind of did [get together] in the beginning,' Lopez admits.

'We saw each other for a little bit, then kind of went our separate ways for many years because we were both in different places in our lives. Now we have the kind of love with no question mark.'

And it seems things are even civilised between Lopez and her exes - fiancé Ben Affleck and her partner of two-and-a-half years Sean Combs (P Diddy).

When asked if she'd keep in touch or follow their careers, Lopez responds positively.

'Would I see a movie of Ben’s? Sure! Why not? I haven't seen him or talked to him in a while - our lives went in two very different directions.

'But I always wish him the best and I always thought he was a great person. And Sean - I've run into him once or twice, with Marc, and it's always very friendly.

'He asks about the twins because he has twins too. Again, I always wish him the best
