Don't they scrub up well! Gwen Stefani and her family get smart for her niece's christening

Smart: Gwen Stefani, husband Gavin Rossdale and their sons Zuma and Kingston (right) make their way to her baby niece's christening

In denim, leather and lots of black, they are usually pictured looking ever inch the rock and roll family.

So it made for a pleasant surprise - and a nice change - to see pop star Gwen Stefani and her clan suited and booted as they made their way to a family christening yesterday.

The singer, 40, her rock star husband Gavin Rossdale, 44, and their two sons Kingston, three, and 20-month-old Zuma were snapped walking to a church in Los Angeles for the family event.

Rossdale, usually seen clad in black from head to toe, looked very handsome in his grey suit and polished shoes.

Gwen looked elegant in thick striped orange, black and grey suit but still kept an element of her kooky style with her unusual towering heels, dark sunglasses and bright red lipstick.

Even Kingston was dressed for the occasion in chinos, a striped blue jacket and white and blue bowling shoes.

But whether he got too hot in the Californian sun or mum didn't want him messing up his nice clothes, he was seen later at his grandmother's house in tracksuit bottoms and a vest.

The family were attending the christening of her brother Todd's six-month-old daughter Stella at the St. Brendan Catholic Church in Los Angeles.

And despite the waiting paparazzi, Gwen took the opportunity to use her flash camera to take some snaps of the family for her personal album.

It was then on to her mother Patti's house for a post-christening party, where Kingston and Zuma shed their smart clothes for some casual attire as they charged around the garden and played together.

Dad even got in on the act a bit later as he chased Zuma round the garden, the young boy laughing his head off and looking relaxed and happy with the paparazzi's presence.

And according to Gwen, Zuma is already proving to be a natural entertainer

Comparing him to his quieter older brother, she said recently: 'Zuma is more of a show-off. He wants everyone to watch him, and he’s a goofball, and he’s really silly.
He’s a funny guy.'
