Skinny Catherine Zeta-Jones dances her curves away

Too slim? A spindly Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas enjoy a romantic stroll together around Central Park in New York on Sunday

She once hit out at Hollywood's obsession with super-skinny women.

But Catherine Zeta-Jones appears to have adopted a much more relaxed view these days, after showing off her spindly figure.

The actress has shed her famous curves following weeks of dancing and singing on stage in her Broadway musical, A Little Night Music.

Her slender hips and bony legs are a far cry from the rather buxom figure she cut at the end of last year when she still favoured revealing outfits with plunging necklines.

The 40-year-old mother of one, who has professed a casual attitude to diet and exercise in the past, looked particularly lean as she took a stroll through New York on Sunday night with her husband Michael Douglas, 65.

She has famously battled to control her weight, which has fluctuated wildly in recent years. She once told how she 'ate for Wales' when pregnant with their first child, Dylan, now seven, which saw her balloon to 13st.

After the birth of her daughter Carys five years ago, she used a tough dance-based routine from her movie Chicago to whittle herself into shape.

After that she became curvy again - so curvy there was speculation she had breast enlargement surgery. Her publicist has always refused to comment on the rumours.

Then, after being pictured looking thin in 2007, she had to deny reports that she was anorexic. She said her weight loss was a result of eating well.

She said at the time: ‘How could I ever, ever be anorexic? I’m just working out and not chomping down what I usually chomp down.’

In June 2008, she appeared to have shrunk even more whilst pictured shooting her latest film, The Rebound.

'My muscles have memory from the time I danced, and it's quick for me to get back in shape, but I'm not fanatical,' she said recently.

It certainly hasn't stopped her winning over the critics. Zeta-Jones has won rave reviews in the U.S. for her role as Desiree in A Little Night Music, which is her Broadway debut.

Critics have described her performances as ‘luminous’ and ‘mesmerising’.
